About us

The California Green Business Network leads the state in working with hard-to-reach businesses to create a vibrant, green economy. We contribute by helping to make our communities healthier and more livable while also conserving resources and saving money. Since 1996, the Network has offered technical assistance and economic incentives to help business owners make lasting changes that (i) enhance the bottom line, (ii) protect the environment, (iii) grow the workforce, and (iv) serve environmentally conscientious consumers. The California Green Business Program is a network of local programs operated by counties and cities throughout California. Businesses that apply receive personal attention from the public agencies and utilities that serve them. The program is funded by grass-roots contributions from local government and utility partners to make it accessible to small to medium-sized businesses in California. Certified Green Businesses exceed all environmental regulations and implement specific practices to reduce pollution, save water and energy, and protect human health. Led by a coalition of state, local, utility and non-governmental organizations, the program achieves its mission by recognizing and promoting businesses that meet high sustainability standards. The measured results of all 3000+ California Green Businesses put together nets some huge environmental outcomes: Over 800,000 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions reduced, the equivalent of planting over 40,000 urban acres of trees a year for ten years. Enough kilowatt-hours saved to power 25,000 houses for an entire year. Over 400,000 metric tons of waste diverted from the landfill, almost 60,000 garbage trucks worth of waste eliminated. 124 million gallons of water saved – a lot of toilets and shower heads folks! Over 28,000 gallons of hazardous waste eliminated. The Network was formalized as an official state program in 2011 (A.B. 913 Feuer) and is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

    I can't wait to reunite with my colleagues working on Green Business Programs in the California Green Business Network in the City of Carlsbad next week! Our conference never fails to bring us together to share best practices, come up with great ideas, and just a general chance to collaborate and enjoy each others company. I'm particularly looking forward to our tour of Dr. Bronner's, and our GeoCache team building activity led by Develop Your Team: Custom Solutions, all held Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation. Our Board of Directors will meet at Napatini Wine Bar. These are just a few of our Green Businesses supporting us to help more businesses go green. I'm excited to have Sarah Hilmer, MBA share the results of our Intuit sponsored mini-grants to help businesses reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. Erin Levine from World Centric and Neil Edgar from the California Compost Coalition will present on plastic pollution prevention (SB54). There are so many energy leaders coming to teach us: Rob Howard with the Clean Energy Alliance , Lujuana M., Alejandra Téllez, Sheena Tran, Tom Abram, PE, LEED AP, CEM, Kevin Simmons from Resource Innovations . Leading us off will be Gabby Yamhure with The San Diego Regional Climate Collaborative and we'll learn about a cool new tool to track edible food recovery from Alyson Schill from Careit. Of course, we'll all be sharing with each other as well. Special thanks to Sandrine Cassidy for the orchestration.

    Congratulations to the STEMbassadors IDEA Center for their recent Innovator Green Businesses certification! 🌱🙌🏽 An organization in the City of Ventura that provides innovative hands on education and creates space for underserved youths’ creativity to blossom! By offering career pathways, students get the chance to partner with local businesses and community members. The IDEA Center offers a full spectrum of technical and artistic equipment, from CNC routers to screen printing, and strives to facilitate a flourishing creative environment where people can learn and master STEM skills. Assemblymember Bennet recently visited them and recognized them for their organization's efforts! Joined by City of Ventura Councilmembers, Ventura Environmental Sustainability, Environmental Innovations that operates the statewide efforts through CAGBN, and Ventura Unified School District Leadership for supporting STEMbassadors!
